Creating a Roof Maintenance Plan

Regular roof maintenance is an extremely important part of being a homeowner. Regular maintenance is the best way to get the most for your money, as it extends the life of your roof and prevents expensive problems from popping up. Every homeowner should have a roof maintenance plan in place; here are a few things to include in yours.

Roof maintenance should be performed at least twice a year, ideally once during the spring and once during the fall. Performing maintenance in the spring and fall will allow you to evaluate your roof and make any necessary repairs following the two most extreme seasons, winter and summer.


If you are able, you should climb up on your roof to perform maintenance. Take a look around and see if you can spot damaged shingles, bald shingles, missing shingles, or even missing granules. Once your shingles have been evaluated, trim up any overhanging tree limbs and clean out your gutter. One important item of note: safety is of most importance. If you feel uncomfortable walking on your roof, contact a professional to perform an inspection.


Lastly, have a roofing professional come to inspect your roof at least once a year. They can evaluate your roof and spot anything you may have missed, which can save you a lot of money in the long run.
